Robert John Messer II, 65, of Clarington, formerly of Crabtree, went peacefully from the arms of his loving wife into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 12, 2018.
Bob was born on October 21, 1952 to Thomas and Mona Lee Messer in Greensburg and shared a home with six brothers and sisters: Lorna, Jeffy, Karin, Tommy, Heidi, and Timmy, as he lovingly referred to them. He grew up in the woods and was active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. This started his love of nature.
Bob married Catherine Shields and together they raised three children: Becky, Bobby, and Jimmy to which he was forever grateful to her. The family tree sprouted two grandchildren, Brandon and Ryan.
Bob retired from Pittsburgh Plate and Glass Industries in Greensburg and Creighton division.
In 2007 Bob moved to Clarington and there shared his love of the woods with his best friend and wife, Denise (Blose) Messer. Bob was grafted into a readymade family of Craig, Kayla, Kate, Andy and their children: Izzy, Carter, Gage, Elliott and Carly Jean.
On the day Bob passed, April 12, 2018, marked the 14 year anniversary of his “New Breathe Day”. Bob received the gift of life….a new pair of lungs. Along with the new lungs came a life full of adventure and joy. He loved to hike the mountains around his home as well as work on the Gettysburg Battlefield rebuilding fences, painting barns and just enjoying the history surrounding the battle. Bob loved to travel, especially to his favorite beach in Chatham on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
Bob celebrated each day to the fullest praising God for an opportunity to serve Him and enjoy family and friends. Bob was a member of the Potter’s Clay Christian Fellowship in Brookville Pa. He was a member of the Marienville Lions Club where he took pleasure “ringing the bell” at Christmas time for the Salvation Army. He was active in the “Team Cruisers” Relay for Life in Marienville as well. He worked at the Food Bank once a month and learned the importance of serving others. Bob was also elected Barnett Township Supervisor but due to his illness had to resign.
Friends and family are welcome to join together at Clarington Methodist Church on Saturday April 28, 2018 at 1 p.m. for a Celebration of Life Service.
Life is what you celebrate. All of it. Even its end…Joanne Harris
