Blanche McClellan

Blanche Marie McClellan, 94, of Marienville, PA died on Saturday June 9, 2018 at the Clarion Hospital.

She was born November 6, 1923 in Ree Heights, SD to the late Ralph and Edith (Leadbetter) Speirs.  She was one of twelve children.  After graduation Blanche attended beauty school in Sioux Falls and obtained her beauticians license.  In 1944 she met and was married by a Justice of the Peace to Hugh T. McClellan while he was in the Air Force stationed in South Dakota.  In 1945 she moved to Marienville, PA from SD.  She worked as a beautician from her home and also went to her customers homes to do their hair.  She also sold baby clothing, Barbie clothes, and AVON products.  She worked at Marienville Glass for a short time.  Blanche also wrote for the Forest Press Newspaper.  In 1950 she and her husband were remarried at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Crown, PA.  Blanche enjoyed BINGO and in younger years, playing poker every afternoon from 1 to 4 at her home and her friends homes.  She enjoyed bowling and was a lefty.

Blanche is survived by three sons, Mike "Lee" McClellan of Simpsonville, SC, Pat " Diane" McClellan of Butler, PA, Jim " Annie" McClellan of Marienville, PA; a daughter, Jane McClellan of Marienville; two sisters, Dorothy Fawcett of Miller, SD, Harriet Kopplin of Miller, SD; eleven grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her special care givers; Mitzi Bloom, Judy Reitz, Deb Fitzgerald, Carol Hidinger, Merlea Gougher, and Bonnie Dechant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers; Waldo, Leonard, Glenn, Kenny, Keith, and Willis; her sisters, Delila, Mary Alice, and Florence.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday June 13, 2018 from 2 - 4 PM and 6 - 8 PM at the Furlong Funeral Home, 140 Cherry Street, Marienville, PA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 14, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Ann's Church in Marienville, PA with the Rev. Christopher Barnes, pastor, as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in St Ann's Cemetery in Marienville, PA.
