Catherine E. (Katy) Gatesman 86, a lifelong resident of Marienville, for the past 4 years resident of Brevillier Village in Haborcreek, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Fairview Manor in Fairview.
Katy was born March 19, 1932 in Vowinckel. She was the daughter of the late Agustus Schaming and Leila (McClosky) Schaming.
She was married for over 66 years to Alfred Gatesman, who passed away December 17, 2016.
Katy was a homemaker who was an excellent cook and was well known for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was also very kind and affectionate to every dog and cat she ever came in contact with.
She was of the Catholic faith, and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Marienville.
She is survived by her son, Mike Gatesman (wife Molly), of Girard; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Along with her late husband and parents, she had the unfortunate and sad experience of being preceded in death by three of her children: a son, Jim Gatesman, who died November 29, 1973, a daughter, Cathy Olivieri, who died August 10, 2013, and a son, Tom Gatesman, who died August 12, 2015. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Schaming, and a sister, Mary Jane Martin.
It was the request of Catherine to have no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday December 18, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church in Marienville with Rev. Christopher Barnes, pastor, as celebrant. Graveside services will follow at St. Ann Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to St Ann Catholic Church in Marienville.
The family also would like to thank the staff at Brevillier Village and Fairview Manor for their excellent patient care and kindness they gave to Katy.
