James L. Smith, 89, of Summerville, PA, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at his home in Summerville.
Born August 20, 1928 in Brookville, PA, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Florence (Morrison) Smith.
Jim was a 1946 graduate of Summerville High School. On July 14, 1947, he was married to Bonnie Hamler; she preceded him in death on July 27, 2014.
Jim was self-employed the majority of his life making game calls, a skill for which he was well-known. In 1960, he established Smith Game Calls where he was the owner, creator, and designer of the game calls; he worked at his craft until the day he passed away.
He was a member of the Summerville Church of Christ. He was a member of the National Turkey Federation, and also a member of the Summerville Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and polka music.
Jim is survived by two sons, Jerry (Wanda) Smith of Baxter and Randon (Rose) Smith of Summerville; a daughter, Theresa (Randy) Wolfgong of Summerville; three brothers, Jack Smith of Brookville, Dean (Pauline) Smith of Summerville, and Eddie (Virginia) Smith of Corsica; three grandchildren, Jamie (Jena)Smith, Shawna (John) Gould, Codi (Seth) Myers; and three great-grandchildren, Zack, Jenna, and Ian.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by five brothers, Junior, Leroy, Lloyd, Dan, Ronald, and three sisters, Elsie, Frances, and Evelyn.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday July 31, 2018 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11 am at the Summerville Church of Christ, with Michael Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in the Vandervort Cemetery, Clover Twp., Jefferson County, PA.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ in Summerville.
