Alvera Spare, 83, of McConnelsville, Ohio passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 28, 1942 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Josephine Verba Marcus.
She married Walter Spare. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage prior to his death on July 20, 2024.
Alvera was a homemaker and worked part time as a child caregiver for local families. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.
She was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church and a current member of McConnelsville Methodist Church. Her memberships also included Neelysville Grange #299 and she oversaw the grange food stand at the Morgan County Fair.
In 1976 she was 1 of 100 finalists in the Pillsbury Bake Off held in Boston.
Her survivors include her sons, Keith and Kevin Spare; her brother, Phillip Marcus; her sisters, Elizabeth Reed and Mary Foreman; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Gary Spare and Herman Reed.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from12-2PM at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA.
A funeral service will follow at 2PM at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Hall, officiating.
Interment and graveside committal services for Alvera will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Beaver TWP, Jefferson County where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
Memorial contribution may be made in her memory to Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, 3886 Heathville Ohl Road, Summerville, PA 15864..
