Bernard “Bernie” Drayer, 95, of Brookville, died Friday, July 14, 2023 at Penn Highlands Brookville.
Born August 8, 1927 in Climax, he was the son of the late Floyd and Marvelle Chestnut Drayer.
On December 11, 1954 at Brookville Methodist Church, he married the former Dorothy Chitester. They celebrated 68 years of marriage this past December.
He retired on August 1, 1986 as a Captain after 39 years from the Merchant Marines. While in service he was employed at Hanley Brick, Climax Brick, Joe Sherman Coal Company and Interlake Steamship Company.
His pastimes included woodworking, carpentry, golfing, and hunting. He spent 27 years wintering in Ocala, Florida.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his sisters, Donna Magle, Lois Drayer, and Vickie ( Ronald) Jones; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Those preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his 4 sisters, Josephine Drayer, Betty Truitt, Ruth Rowley and Ella Girts.
His family will hold “A Celebration of Life” on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11AM at Meade Chapel in Knoxdale.
Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Knoxdale, Jefferson County.
