Dean W. Smith, 93, of Summerville, died Sunday, May 4, 2025 while at Laurelbrook Landing.
Born in Summerville on September 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Harold and Florence Morrison Smith.
On April 11, 1953 in Indiana, PA., he married the former Pauline Kurtz. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2020.
Throughout his working career he worked various jobs. He worked at Hanley Brick, was Union Steward, Assistant Manager and meat cutter at Russies Comet (later becoming Mike’s Comet), and at New Bethlehem Comet.
He was a member of Summerville Church of Christ and was formerly a fireman with Summerville Volunteer Fire Company.
His pastimes included bowling, softball, hunting and fishing, spending time with his family, attending Brookville High School basketball games and he was a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.
His survivors include his sons, Paul (Linda) Smith and Phil (Dana) Smith; his daughter, Robin Cale; his brother, Eddie Smith; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son Pat; his daughters, Joyce and an infant; his brothers, Harold, Jr., Leroy, Lloyd, Dan, Ronald and Jim; and his sisters, Elsie, Frances and Evelyn.
His family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad ST., Summerville, PA.
An additional receiving hour will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10AM-11AM at Summerville Church of Christ, 12514 Harrison St., Summerville, PA. with a funeral service to follow at 11AM with Mike Smith, presiding.
A private graveside service will be held for his family at Vandervort Cemetery, Clover Township, Jefferson County.
