Donald Wells Obituary

Donald Edward Wells, 77, of Punxsutawney Pennsylvania, formerly of DuBois, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 while at Allegheny General Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

He was born on October 9, 1948 in DuBois, he was the son of the late George Wells and Elsie (Delp) Wells King.

He was a graduate of DuBois High School and was of the Methodist faith.

He married Linda Palmer on July 3, 1995, in DuBois, and they shared 31 beautiful years together.  Through every season of life, they remained each other’s greatest source of strength and joy.

Prior to his retirement, he dedicated 30 years to Starr Coal Company. His strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a self-employed business owner. He owned and operated Wells Excavating.  He took great pride in his work and especially enjoyed operating heavy equipment.  Later, he and his wife opened Windy Hill Treasures Antique Shop in DuBois. Through his businesses, he created meaningful connections with customers and friends alike.

Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially when he could share those moments with his grandchildren Kara, Derrick, Andrew, Zach, and Dylan. Time spent outdoors brought him great happiness. Whether sitting quietly by the water with a fishing pole in hand or heading into the woods during hunting season, those outings were more than hobbies—they were treasured opportunities to bond, teach, and create lasting memories with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, ChristineWells; his step children, Wendy Kanouff, Marjorie (Jim) Tolin and Ernest Moore; his sisters, Barbara London, Lynda (Dick) Allen, Carole (Bob) Ankeney, Tara (Dan) O’Neill and Wanda (Don) Hurley; as well as his 9 grandchildren and his 13 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Wells; and close friend Raymond Pollino.

Don will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering integrity, and love for his family. His laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew him.
