Doris Murphy

Doris S. Murphy, 86, of Marienville, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 while at Snyder Memorial Home in Marienville.

Born in Sigel on April 7, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Isabel Motter Guthrie.

She attended Sigel High School and was of Methodist faith.

She first was married to Ursel Shaffer; he preceded her in death in 1963. She later married Raymond Murphy; he preceded her in death in 1982.

Prior to her retirement in 2001 she was employed as a CNA,previous to that she had worked in several area restaurants as a waitress.

Her memberships included the Sportsmen’s Club of Forest County (where she was a lifetime member with 54 years of membership), Marienville VFW Ladies Auxiliary (where she was a lifetime member with 56 years of membership), the American Legion and the Eagles Club.

Those surviving are her son, Joseph (Melinda) Shaffer; her daughter in law, Cindy Shaffer; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Tori), Justin, Victoria and Anglesea; her great grandchildren, Kendrick, Conner and Kobe; and her brother, Phillip Guthrie.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her son, James Shaffer; her brothers, Henry Guthrie, Bruce Guthrie, Gary Guthrie and James McGlaughlin; and her sisters, Betty Moyer and Jamie McGlaughlin; as well as her longtime companion, Richard Sipes.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 1-3PM at Furlong Funeral Home, 140 Cherry St., Marienville, PA.

A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3PM with Pastor Heidi Helsel, Marienville Community Methodist Church, presiding.

Interment will be in North Forest Cemetery, Marienville, Forest County.
