George C. “Sonny George” Shick, Jr., 83 of Summerville, died early Saturday morning, December 4, 2021 at McKinley Health Center following an illness.
Born on July 18, 1938 in Hawthorn, he was the son of the late George C. Shick, Sr. and Jessie Dinger Shick.
He attended Hawthorn School.
On August 9, 2008 in Sigel, he married Sandra Shick. She survives.
George worked as a self employed contractor prior to his retirement in 2000.
Known as the “Bluegrass Man” he was instrumental in organizing “The Bluegrass Festival” in Summerville as well as being a member of Summerville Fire Company and Roseville Chapel.
Those surviving in addition to his wife, Sandy, are a son Duane (Theresa) Shick; daughters, Susan Rosenberry, Jana (Brad) Rake, Denise (Bob) Beer and Sarah Chronister; 2 step children, Deborah (Wayne) Simpers and Norman (Cheri) Pourman; a brother, James (Linda) Shick; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minerva Shick; son, Daniel Shick; and a stepson, Donald Pourman.
There will be no public services held at this time. His family will schedule and announce a Memorial Service for a later date.
A Private Funeral Service was held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA., with Pastor James Fillhart, officiating. Interment will follow at the Hawthorn Cemetery, Clarion County.
