James R. Shreckengost

James R. “Jim” Shreckengost, 76, of Summerville, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025, while at Penn Highlands Brookville with his family by his side.

Born February 12, 1949, in Colwell, PA., he was the son of the late Roy and Iva Crissman Shreckengost.

After graduating from high school, he continued his education by obtaining certificates in both welding and carpentry.

He proudly and honorably serviced his country in with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

On October 7, 1972, at Pleasant Hill Bible Church he married the former Jacqueline R. Clinger. She survives.

Prior to his retirement he had been a coal miner for over 30 years.

Jim was a member of the New Bethlehem American Legion.

His pastimes included hunting, carpentry, drawing, older cars and drag racing, but he LOVED his kids and grandkids.

In addition to his wife his survivors include his son, Keith (Mary) Shreckengost; his daughter, Katie Shreckengost; his grandchildren, Tasha, Karrie, Latoshia, Shylie, Brenden, Natalie and Gwendolyn; his step grandchildren, Amber and Sean; his great grandchildren, Ariania, Aubrey and Braylon; his brother, Dennis (Glenda) Shreckengost: his sisters, Diane Shreckengost and Ruth George; as well as numerous extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kelvin Shreckengost; his brothers, Reed, Eugene, Glenn and Boyd Shreckengost; and his sisters, Earlene, Alberta, Dorothy, Margaret, Eleanora, Lucille and Hazel.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA. from 2-4PM & 6-7PM. 

A funeral service will be held at 7PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, with Andrew Strohm, officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the Brookville Area Honor Guard.
