John G. Dinger, 88, of Brookville died Friday, April 1, 2022 at McKinley Health Center following a period of declining health.
Born December 25, 1933 in Brookville, he was the son of the late Pearl and Katherine Lowry Dinger.
He attended Brookville Area Schools and was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended Zion Methodist Church, Brookville.
On May 22, 1954 in Las Vegas, he married the former Janet Keyes. She survives.
He proudly severed his county with the US Air Force in the Korean War.
While in Las Vegas he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, this is where he obtained his private pilots license. After returning to PA he worked on the construction of I 80, owned a used car lot and gas station and as an Estate Auctioneer. He served the people of Jefferson County as Sheriff for 8 years. In 2000 he retired as an Inspector and Investigator for the State of Pennsylvania.
He enjoyed making toys and furniture from wood.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by his sons, John and Perry Dinger; his daughter in law, Linda Dinger; his sister, Kaye (Travis) Haywood; as well as nieces and nephews.
Those preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his brother Richard Dinger; his sisters, Nancy Jean Williams; and Jean Mills; his granddaughter, Kristin Nicole Dinger.
Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA, has been entrusted with the final arrangements for Mr. Dinger.
There will be no visitation held as per his wishes.
A memorial service for later this year is being planned and the date will be announced.
A Graveside Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at Roseville Bethel Cemetery, Brookville, PA with the Rev.Dale Livermore, presiding.
