Joyce Shaffer

Joyce Irene Shaffer, 84, of Anita passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Born June 19, 1939, Joyce was the first born of Alfred and Irene (Lester) Anderson. 

She was a graduate of the Punxsutawney School District and married Dean R. Shaffer July 29,  1960, who survives. 

Joyce was a lifelong member of the Anita Assembly of God where she was the pianist and secretary for many years. Having a warm smile and personality to match, she was everyone's sweetheart and was loved by everyone who knew her. 

Joyce was a teller at the S&T Bank for 46 years before her retirement in 2006. 

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, 3 brothers and a sister: James Anderson (Lyn) of Gastonia NC, Joel Anderson (Donna), Jeffery Anderson (Sandy) and Jennifer Herzog all of Punxsutawney. Also surviving are 2 sister-in-laws: Jean Moore of Phoenix AZ and Maxine McMillen (Jack) of Reynoldsville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-laws, Rick Herzog and Charles Moore. 

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Furlong Funeral Home in Summerville, PA. There will be a private family graveside service at the Anita Community Cemetery, Jefferson County, PA.
