Mabel “Sis” Dunkle, 92, of Brookville, passed away the morning of Wednesday, September 3, 2025, while at Penn Highlands Brookville following a period of declining health.
Born on December 11, 1932, in Brookville, she was the daughter of the late Max and Mabel Osborne Carrier.
Sis was a graduate of Brookville High School and attended Roseville Independent Chapel.
In 1954 she married Harry “Ed” Dunkle. He preceded her in death.
She began her career with Penelec for 21 years as Personnel Supervisor before retiring and beginning her 2nd career as the Director of the Heritage House.
Sis was very well known for fundraising for The Area Agency on Aging and for her activism in the Republican Party. She served on many local agency boards as well as having held several elected county offices.
Her survivors include her sister, Kitty Williams; her sister–in-law, Linda Elliott; her 2 granddaughters; her 5 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Those preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husband are her daughter, Sherry McAninch; her brother, Max Carrier; and a nephew.
Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA. has been entrusted with the final arrangements for Mrs. Dunkle.
As per Sis’s adamant wishes there will be no services held.
Interment will be held privately at Pisgah Cemetery, Corsica, Jefferson County.
