Mary Lou (Martz) Burkett Obituary

Mary Lou Burkett, 80, of Punxsutawney died Tuesday, March 7, 2023 of natural causes at her home.

Born in Ringgold on September 4, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Clara Powell Martz.

She was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and attended DuBois Business College.

Employed at Jefferson County Housing Authority for many years, she was very proud of the work she did there as Assistant Director.

She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Methodist Church in Oliveburg.

Mary Lou was a LOVING mother, grandmother and friend. She treated everyone with respect and will be missed by all those who knew her.

Her greatest pleasure was hosting family and friends at her Christmas Eve Open House which she held for many years. Her favorite holiday was Christmas.

Her survivors include her three sons, Douglas K. (Leslie) Burkett, Jerry P. Burkett and Jeffrey P. (Roxanne) Burkett: her son-in-law, John R. Lellock; her two grandchildren which she raised as her own, Clara Lou and Zacheriah; as well as 11additional grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death in addition to her parents are her longtime partner, Michael J. “Mike” Adams; her daughter, Patricia D. Lellock; her great granddaughter, Sadie Mae Lou Allen; her brother, Donald Martz and her sister, Irene Pierce.

All services for Mrs. Burkett will held privately and have been entrusted to Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA.

Her family requests memorial donations be made in her memory to the Dementia Society of America.
