Paul Raymond “Ray” Shaffer, 91, of Kersey, died late Sunday evening, April 16, 2023 while at Highland View in Brockway.
Born on November 2, 1931 in Knoxdale, he was the son of the late Paul and Mildred Gilhousen Shaffer.
He was a 1949 graduate of Brookville Area High School and in 1974 from I.C.S. he received his degree in Industrial Engineering.
On February 19, 1955 in St. Marys he married Sara Marjorie Schatz. They celebrated their 68th Anniversary this past February.
From 1953-1980 he was employed as an Cost Estimator for Stackpole Carbon upon leaving he Co-Founded Fairview Sintered Metals from which he retired in 1993.
He was a member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church in Kersey, SNPJ Polka Club and NCPS.
His pastimes included playing accordion, Polkas and wintering in Florida with friends and family where they were able to enjoy live music at EPCOT. They especially enjoyed the Mariachi’s who became personal lifelong friends.
In addition to his wife, Sara, he is survived by his daughters, Marjorie (Nicholas) Fritz and Judith (Hiram Torres) Shaffer; his grandchildren, Troy (Libbi) Fritz, Christa (Brian) Fritz, Christopher and Benjamin Torres, ; his great grandchildren, Zachary and Caslyn; his brother, Richard (Phyllis) Shaffer; his sisters, Lorraine Wiles, Mary Ann Spence, Nancy (Charlie) Deible, Jean (Bob) Conner, Joyce (George) Haines and Doris McAnich; and his grandpups, Wyatt and Willow.
Those preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his brothers, Donald Shaffer and Bernard Shaffer; and his brothers-in- law, Darwin Wiles and Dean Spence.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 355 Main St, Kersey, PA on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 12:30PMwith Rev. Kevin Holland, officiating.
Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA. has been entrusted with the final arrangements for Mr. Shaffer.
In lieu of donations Ray’s request was “To always be kind and take care of yourselves and others.”
