William Cordwell Sr. Obituary

William D. “Bill” Cordwell, Sr., 72, of Summerville, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025 while at Penn Highlands Dubois following a period of declining health.

Born in Johnstown on January 7, 1953, he was the son of the late Norman Cordwell, Sr. and Rita Cordwell.

After obtaining his G.E.D. he continued his education at Dubois Business College, participating in Police Training and a Truck Drivers Training Program.

He proudly and honorably served his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps.

On April 3, 1974 in Rural Valley he married the former Doris Brumbaugh. She survives.

He sent his working career at various jobs, working as a truck driver and in law enforcement for the Sherriff’s Office, with the Game Commission and as an auxiliary officer for Punxsutawney Borough. He retired in 2016.

His pastimes include drawing, boating, riding motorcycles and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Doris he is survived by his son, William (Shauna) Cordwell, Jr.; his daughters, Brandie (Scott) Rhines, Wanita Cotton and Amanda (DJ) Grimm; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Madi, Morgan, Robbie, Mason, Shana, Haylie and Brittney; his great grandchildren, Jackson, Zayne and Sophie; his brother; his sister, Gail Irwin; and his dog, Casper.

Those preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his daughter, Helen Murray; his brothers, Tim and Hank Cordwell; his sisters, Lillian “Sis” Foster and Bonnie Cordwell; and his niece, Lillian Foster.

His family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 2-4PM at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, PA.

A funeral service will follow at 4PM at the funeral home with Mike Smith, officiating.

Interment will be in Vandervort Cemetery, Clover TWP., Jefferson County.
